The Clarendon Township has a population of around 700 residents and is one of the original settlements in this part of the Adelaide Hills. The township has great pride in its local history and highly values its setting and landscape character.
The planning policy framework for the township has been updated over the years and there was some community concern with some of these changes and also recent planning decisions of Council.
Intermethod facilitated a series of workshops, worked with Council staff to run a survey and directly liaised with community members to understand issues and consider options.
The workshops and surveys achieved a very high response rate, indicating strong preferences for certain planning policy outcomes. A strong project focus on building trust and rapport between the community and the project team was a key learning and achieving element of the project.
Intermethod worked with staff and the community to build consensus on a preferred ‘quick wins’ planning policy approach as part of the transition to the Planning Code.
Intermethod produced a detailed Engagement Report explaining and analysing the consultation process and conclusions, plus a set of recommended policy changes for the Clarendon Township. The report was well received and endorsed by Council’s Strategic Directions Committee.
