Intermethod, in partnership with Phillip Boyle & Associates, carried out city-wide assessment of the street network for the City of Perth and established:
- Movement status
- Place status during a weekday day time, weekday evenings, Saturday day time and Saturday evenings.
To communicate the Movement and Place concepts and explore the findings, Intermethod developed and delivered five workshops with internal and external stakeholders. The process of collaboration with the Client and the stakeholders involved adaptation of the Movement and Place approach to Perth’s local context.
The in-depth Movement and Place assessment involved site visits to all streets during the four assessment periods, as well as the review of the relevant background information relating to the movement of traffic, transport, people and goods; key generators of activity, events, specifics of the built form and open spaces. During the course of the study, extensive photography was taken to gather examples that illustrated various points of the assessment.
Intermethod was the lead author of the project report, which included detailed city-wide Movement and Place maps for the four week periods and provided numerous examples. The report outlined key issues associated with street activation and recommended the next steps.
This 2017 baseline Movement and Place assessment will be used by the City of Perth to frame their discussions about future transport planning directions and work on developing the new planning strategy.
